Each night before bed as my son is drinking his bottle, we pray together as a family. This prayer closes out our day and acknowledges the Lord before we go to sleep. It allows the three of us a moment of peace and togetherness. In praying together, we are standing firm in our faith and growing spiritually as a family. Even on the nights that my husband and I are exhausted, my son is crying, or there are other things to tend to, we make this a priority. It’s become one of my most cherished family rhythms.
In being a first time mom, I often wonder if I’m doing things right. Am I protecting too much? Am I teaching enough? Am I being a Christ-like example? It’s challenging to know the answers to those questions unless we are in tune with the Holy Spirit, but one thing that has brought me peace in these beginning months and years is that starting small is still starting. My son may not be old enough to sit for a Bible study, but he hears my husband and I praying aloud over our family every single night. I fully believe that we will see the fruit of this in years to come!
If you are struggling with what to pray over your children or family members, I’ve put together a few ideas. These are great things to pray over anyone really! A niece or nephew, friend, spouse, etc.
